This is the page for listeners of Darlington Ogbuka's podcast, Control or Be Controlled. If Ingrid talked about picking her own voice back up, here's where you check yours — it takes about two minutes, right here on your phone.

What Vocal Refresh actually is

A vocal training app for women coming back to singing after years away. You sing short guided exercises into your phone, it maps the range you have today, and it builds you a short daily session for that voice. Your audio never leaves your device.

It opens to founding members first, before general release. Founding members pay $69.99 a year, held for three years.

Who is teaching you

I'm Ingrid Moss. I have coached voice for more than 25 years, and most of that time has gone to one kind of singer: the woman who used to sing, stopped for a while, and wonders whether it is still in there. I have been performing in musical theatre for over 30 years, and I studied Music and Music Theory at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.

The part that actually qualifies me is the break I took myself. I was on stage, living inside music, and then life filled up. A new career, a family, more to do than there were hours to do it in. My own singing went quiet and I could not tell you which week it happened. Nobody decides to stop singing. It just stops being the thing that fits.

I picked it back up years later, badly at first, and learned the thing I now say to every new student in her first lesson. A voice that has been sitting unused is not a voice that is gone. It is out of practice, which is a different problem and a far more fixable one.

"Voices don't expire. They wait."

There is more of that story on the about page, including how I teach and who this is built for.

Before you ask

Questions I hear a lot

I cannot really sing anymore. Is this for me?

Especially you. Vocal Refresh is designed for voices that have changed, not for people who already sound good. If you feel like you have lost it, you are exactly who this was built for. The exercises start from wherever your voice actually is, which is why the first thing you do is a check rather than a song.

Will anyone hear me practicing?

No. Your audio is analyzed on your phone and then it is gone. There is no library of your recordings, because we never have them. Most of the work is quiet anyway, so it survives a house with other people in it.

Do I need any equipment or experience?

Just your phone and a few quiet minutes. No gear, no music theory, no prior training. You do not need to read music and you will never be asked to perform for anyone.

What does the founding-member rate mean?

The price you join at is the price you keep. If Vocal Refresh costs more later, and it will, founding members stay at the founding rate for as long as they keep their membership. Joining the waitlist is free and nothing is charged today.

How much time does this actually take?

Five minutes a day, most days. Singing is a coordination skill, and coordination is built by frequency rather than by long sessions, so five short days beat one heroic weekend every time. The whole app is built around a full life rather than a spare hour you do not have.
